Operating MK4 - IR and RF Functions

This guide will explain how to operate IR and RF functions of the MK4 type Viggo remote control

1. Operational Setup and Transmission Modes

The Viggo remote control has two operational setups and two transmission modes.

One of two operational setups, Generic TV setup or Viggo TV setup, is selected during the Viggo box setup. To select a setup, press and hold the OK and Menu buttons for 10 seconds. Each time this action is performed the operational setup will switch between the two options.

The remote LED will indicate when toggle process is complete:

  • Double LED blink will indicate Generic TV setup has been selected.
  • Triple LED blink will indicate Viggo TV setup has been selected.

Once you have selected a setup, you will not need to perform this selection with the remote again unless it is re-assigned to a different box.

  1. Generic TV setup: All keys marked with “RF|IR” in the table below (Generic TV Setup Mode Key Layout) toggle between IR and RF transmission modes as described below.
    1. Transmission modes
      • IR mode – RF|IR marked buttons send IR commands based on learned IR process or selected IR database, as detailed below.
      • RF mode – RF|IR marked buttons send RF commands as, as detailed below.
    2. Transmission mode selection - set by pressing these remote buttons:
      • TV: remote transmission mode is set to IR mode.
      • SmartTV: remote transmission mode is set to RF mode.
      • Power: remote transmission mode is set to RF mode.

Viggo TV setup: There is no transmission mode change in this setup.

2. Remote Control Keys Layout

The two tables below relate to the keys layout of the remote control for the two operational setup modes.

Notations:

  1. IR: either IR codes from built-in IR database of major manufacturers or IR codes learned from other remote control.
  2. IR1: IR command assigned to Smart TV
  3. IR2: IR command assigned to Power
  4. RF: only RF code is supported.
  5. RF|IR: both capabilities are supported and a single signal will be sent depending on the current transmission mode as described in the previous section. When transmission mode is RF, only RF codes are sent; when transmission mode is IR, only IR codes are sent.
  6. IR+RF: both capabilities are supported and both signals will be sent in sequence or simultaneously with each key press.
  7. IR1+IR2+RF: Power button will send 2 different IR commands and an RF command.
    • 1st: IR1, the IR command assigned to the Smart TV button.
    • 2nd: IR2,  Power Toggle command. The delay between IR1 and IR2 is 1 second by default, but can be user-configured.
    • 3rd: RF command sent according to table below.

IR1-IR2 Delay Configuration:

  1. Press OK and Guide buttons for 10 seconds.
  2. A two-digit input (XY) will be requested on-screen, with a  range of 00 to 99:
  • 00 – means IR1 is not sent so only IR2 + RF needs to be sent.
  • xy – means IR1 is sent and after delay of xy seconds IR2 + RF is sent.
